Initial Selection Packing List
As promised, here is the complete gear list I have in my possession now. This is what I plan on using and having during the event. This is also the same gear I will train with leading up to the event. I tried to put questions along the way where I had them. I want to make sure that once I start training, according to the training plan I designed starting in January, that I use the same gear as game day.
My gear list: • 20 Liter Rucker modified with drain hole at the bottom (Question: Will 20 Liters be large enough in capacity for the event or should I upgrade to a 26L GR1 modified with the drain hole as well? The Rucker was not specifically recommended however I believe the Rucker may me ideal for this event based on my Height; 5’7”) • 2 GEAR-000316 Reflective (Yellow) Ruck Bands • One 45 lb Ruck Plate modified (welded identification plate on face of plate) • One 40 Liter mesh filament, welded seam, vinyl dry bag designed for submersion. (I already had this pre-GORUCK and remember purchasing it from Walmart from the boating section in the store. Bag is waterproof and designed for complete submersion) • One contractor bag (Standard heavy duty design to prevent accidental tearing) • 2 pair of Rocky C4T (One worn; one packed) modified with quick lacing in dual lacing pattern. (Using speed laces for instep and TacLace for ankle to calf) • Oakley Standard Issue fitted tac hat (Black). (Why?... Because I already have it and no need to buy another one) • 2 Pair of Wrightstock Double Layer CoolMesh II socks. (Why?... because I already have these and they work for me) ( • (Question: Packing Lists says 4 pair. So does that mean pack 3 sets and wear one? Also I am considering vacuum sealing each pair in a food saver bag for water integrity but I don’t know if it’s not worth it if I am going to be forced to open the bag during inspection. What do you think?) • REI Patagonia Houdini Jacket (This is my windbreaker and jacket required by the packing list. I prefer this because it packs tight) • One Nike Pro Dri-Fit Fitted long sleeve shirt • One O’Neal long sleeve neoprene RN 77131 Hyperfreak (6oz Hydrophobic Techno Butter. I own this for its thermal capabilities in addition to it being light weight) • One CW-X Compression pants. (I have this because I always wear compression under my clothes. It’s how I always rucked in the past and don’t wish to change how I operate) • One REI Classic Sahara Convertible Pant (Why?... Works for me and I already been using this. This is my rucking pants and even after event after event, and holes I sewn, I don’t see a reason to buy another pair of pants) • One pair of Salomon Cairn 2 in 1 Active Dry shorts. (Shorts are black as required by the packing list) • I pair of Mechanixx gloves (Same gloves I have worn for every event. Not buying a new pair.) • One GORUCK Foot Care Kit • I tube of Anti-Chafing cream • Sunscreen • Two 3L Source Hydration bladders • One 32oz GORUCK Nalgene bottle • One $20 bill attached to my driver’s license with a rubber band • One Petzl Pixa 3 Pro Waterproof Headlamp • One performance beanie cap (I cant remember the name… its generic and old school. I had it for years. Works for me) • One strobe light (Nothing fancy, just waterproof) • Two Chem lights (Picked these up from the Army Navy Store. Simple simple) • One Tan t-shirt (I already own one. Just going to use that one) • One reflective belt. (Got this at the Navy Exchange like 10 years ago and figured why buy another one) • One MRE • One custom meal blend. (I want to work with Amber on this. But the idea is to design a meal plan that I can carry which is compact and a custom blend. Something I don’t have to be reliant on but if I can bring food I want it to be engineered in simple small delivery packets to make it easy to get to and consume in servings)
