Mental Bread
Today was my rest day and one of the things i typically do when I'm actively training is doing research and self reflecting. I thought about what happened to me yesterday.
I spent all day yesterday writing code to extract information from a closed workbook on one sheet and deposit that information on another sheet so that I can extract it later on a run at a later time however I could not get the program to work. I spent hours investigating why it wouldn’t work until the day passed me by and I ran out of time. So, I went home disappointed that I never got my program to work and never knew why. Last night I had a dream about this and even found myself consumed with running scenarios in my head as soon as I woke up even before my morning coffee. When I got to work. I tried a few simple changes and eventually managed to make the program work. Although I was disappointed at the time, I realized that even when I wasn’t actively pursuing the solution, my mind never stopped. I feel extremely motivated now because this is a real life example of how I am applying mental toughness to my day to day life beyond training. Making it into a life style adaptation where I need to finish everything I do. This is exactly what I envisioned for myself and it goes to show you that you don’t have to go hard core physically all the time to awaken and test your mental toughness. Allowing it to evolve into your lifestyle and way of thinking in everything you do is certainly just as important as when you call upon it when you physically need it. Just wanted to share this because I felt that this was a huge win for me today.
