Changing Lives

I was approached today, at the gym, by this 18 year old kid who asked me advice about working out. He asked me specifically about what I recommend he should do to look like me. He took me off guard because I honestly didn't know how to answer him so I told him this. I told him that what ever he does, it needs to be holistic. I told him that it won't work if he puts 100% effort on weight training and neglect cardio. I also told him that the same goes if he focuses heavily on cross fit but neglects the basics like balance and yoga. I told him that his workout routine needs to be functional, holistic and part of his normal life. He then asked me about what foods should he eat and I told him that I'm not an expert but I know that he has to be smart about what you eat because your food is your energy for your life which in this case includes working out. I told him that it can't be a diet because diets have an expiration. I told him that you have to eat and live your life. Enjoy what you eat but be smart about it. Don't be miserable. If you want to eat pizza then eat pizza, but know that everything in life is a balance. Yin and Yang. The law of mass balances. If you go to the dark side then be prepared to put out the work later for it. The last thing I told him is that above all is to master your breathing. I told him that breathing is the one element you will always be able to control. It is the physical manifestation of your mind into what you can control. When you master your breathing you can literally control the physiology of your body. I ended by telling him that i'm not an expert but I do know that you must discover what works for you because your life plan is yours and yours alone. Everything from your daily routine to eating to enjoying your life and to being the master of your mind. I told him that above all none of this matters if you don't know what is your why. Why do you get up in the morning? Why do you live? What is your purpose? I told him that when he discovers that then everything he does will have meaning. Cheesy, I know but I didn't expect that today and just felt I needed to share.
